Warning templates

[edit]

Hi, just poking in because I noticed some of your reverts, like [1], don't have corresponding warnings on talk pages (something something {{uw-warn}}). FifthFive (talk) 23:20, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Another example [2]. I've gone ahead and added it myself.. FifthFive (talk) 18:08, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And again [3]. Can you please give out warning templates more consistently? Thanks, FifthFive (talk) 01:29, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And again :/ [4] FifthFive (talk) 22:36, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) You will find that many old timers do not use these warning templates on IPS for clear vandalism or on those that have been blocked.Moxy🍁 22:49, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for letting me know. FifthFive (talk) 22:55, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:WARNVAND does state that users should be warned for each and every instance of vandalism and I've been told by administrators (Swarm) that leaving the templated warnings are a quote "basic expectation" and that it's never ok to not leave a warning. Is this not true? I recall a case where after a revert by Discospinster, an IP re-added their edits as they hadn't any idea of their mistake, causing more work for another editor to again revert the edits, where then I had to revert the revert as the original edit by the IP turned out to be correct in the first place. All of these unnecessary steps could have been avoided by a simple note after the first revert. -- Cosmic6811 🍁 (T · C) 05:24, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it says users should be warned, not that they must be warned. Also that bit was added after I became an admin. ... discospinster talk 14:57, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I remember correctly, I've brought the same thing up twice now on this talk page and have never received a response -- Cosmic6811 🍁 (T · C) 05:26, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • @FifthFive:.... At Preferences → Gadgets → there is an option to strike out usernames that have been blocked this will allow you to see who's been blocked so you don't have to waste your time with warnings or to simply see what's going on. As a wonderful vandalism fighter you may find a useful visual indicator.Moxy🍁 01:57, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Selassiedunkley

[edit]

Hi, Disco. I have a couple reasons to be concerned over the behavior of Selassiedunkley, and although I may take it to a noticeboard if it continues, I wanted to discuss it with an admin one-on-one first.

  • I believe Selassie is the subject in question, as their stated name within the two identical Wikipedia articles they created and have linked to elsewhere is 'Selassie Dunkley'. They are a single-purpose editor with a clear lack of understanding of guidelines, including the one on self-promotion.
  • I have reason to believe these articles were specifically self-promotional hoaxes. Selassie states that they were signed to Def Jam Recordings but provides zero evidence for this, and I can find zero evidence on Def Jam's website that they ever signed this person. Def Jam has some of the biggest names in music signed to them, and this leads me to believe that Selassie – either as a prank or as a deliberate lie – stated falsely that they were signed to them. Either way, Def Jam's own website directly contradicts what Selassie is saying in the now-drafted article, and I believe it should be removed as a hoax. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 01:36, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can still mark the draft for speedy deletion. ... discospinster talk 01:39, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I marked it as G3, as it is, per Def Jam's website, a deliberate hoax. Much appreciated. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 01:44, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you again, Disco; where would I go to report sockpuppetry? I have reason to believe 2603:9001:902:C205:24C3:5560:DC9:13E5 is an IP sockpuppet for Dunkley making problematic edits by removing speedy deletion templates, and I'm not sure where to go from WP:SOCK. out of respect, i'm quite confused why i'd need to cite a source for a birthday, considering spanish wikipedia already has his birthday listed as December 22nd.

Glady (surname) page dispute

[edit]

ATTENTION! Im not sure if you understand how Wikipedia work. This is literally mind boggling. The Glady surname page is specifically written for the surname. That’s why it has “(surname)” after it. It is about the surname, not any individual. Im not sure if you understand this, but there is a separate stand-alone Angel Glady wiki page that is attached to the Glady disambiguating page for anybody to find. Anybody can search for Angel Glady and find the page. This has nothing to do with the Glady surname page. The Glady surname page and the Angel Glady page are separate pages. Angel Glady has a separate independent page. She does not need two. There is no reason to redirect from the surname page. You do not have to continue to hijack the Glady surname page. Both can exist simultaneously. Why doesn’t this compute? 2600:1006:B14D:6BFD:88E8:EA64:1E63:7388 (talk) 04:07, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

According to WP:EXEMPT1E, If the person is famous for a specific event, the notability requirement need not be met. If a person in a list does not have a Wikipedia article about them, a citation (or link to another article) must be provided". Hi DS! I saw that you commented on Jonatan Habib Engqvist. I would prefer to edit the article than to have it deleted. Jonatan Habib Engqvist is an important figure in the art world. The page is a translation from Swedish Wikipedia (with some clean-ups and added sources).

There are THREE notable sources from major Swedish news outlets to support the mainstream importance of this figure.
One is NOT behind a paywall, from SVT: https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/jonkoping/jattesmileyn-uppsatt-pa-radhuset SVT is the Swedish equivalent to the UK's BBC. See here: Sveriges Television
In addition, there are two other mainstream sources Svenska Dagbladet and Dagens Nyheter, the two largest Swedish newsoutlets-

In addition, there are only handful of Swedish curators active on the international scene and Jonatan Habib Engqist is one of them!
Thank you. I know it is important with multiple opinions and input from experienced users! Thanks! Matriarch-info (talk) 04:35, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Dorothy Lawson (Q18576060) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

A. Quraishi - Sources

[edit]

Had a question on two sources I found updating the notability of this article on Ammad Quraishi. One source seems to be a blog/newsletter entry by the subject from about two years ago referring to his identity and the precise notability claim. Not sure if it can be referenced. The other source is from a national organization that verifies the claim in an archived link (on archive.org) that has redirect issues. The primary link works, but the entry where it is sublinked is either a dead link or just not loading. Should I add these links and then refer to them on the talk page or in the AfD thread?
