Your redirect would seem to say that the only composers of African descent are all Americans! "African American" is not the same as "of African descent". The world is a very big place, and Africa is a very big place of its own, with composers of its own ... - David Gerard 11:15, Jan 17, 2004 (UTC)
First, if a composer was born and lived in African, I think it would be misleading to call this composer "of African descent" because this person is just "African". I invite you to make List of African composers. Secondly, you're right, and I just got around to changing the intro to reflect the pagemove, and am now able to add what I was originally going to title "Composers of the African diaspora", such as Samuel-Coleridge Taylor, of England.Hyacinth 04:33, 20 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Heh, that could have potential indeed! - David Gerard 14:17, Jan 20, 2004 (UTC)
What is the intended scope of this article? Is this supposed to be "African-American composers"? Or "Composers who had some ancestors who came from somewhere in the continent of Africa at some point in the past"? Is any part of the continent valid - - e.g. could Moroccans, Egyptians be added? What about european-descent south africans? Is it only for diaspora, can people from Africa be included as well? --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 16:58, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, I really do not see a point in these African descent pages (we do not have this list for Asian, European, nor Oceanian descent; this list is entirely unique when it should be within a scope). Furthermore, a lot of people being included on this list aren't even verified of their African descent on their respective pages which would make some of these inclusions WP:OR.
