Jonathan Edwards is significant in that not only is he considered by many to be one of the greatest minds of colonial America, but he was also responsible for the Great Awakening which helped to bring America back to its spiritual roots in Christ, in time to defeat the British forces against all odds and form the greatest nation in the world. Without this awakening revival, it is highly doubtful America would have ever been independent of the British Empire, and Edward's son-in-law, Aaron Burr did his part to preserve the tradition, keeping the flame alight through his preaching and for his part in forming one of America's finest Christian Universities.
Doesn't sound too NPOV to me. — Timo Honkasalo 18:27, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Timo Honkasalo rightly puts up a POV warning on this paragraph--it clearly has an Evangelical POV, appears to inaccurately assume no connection between religious movements in Britain and those in colonial America, and grossly over-emphasizes the religious motivations behind the American Revolution. I was not satisified with merely pointing out why Honkasalo was right to put up a POV warning on certain changes made to this article. I had no idea of who Aaron Burr, Sr., was before seeing his warning, but subsequent research showed me that the Rev. Burr was certainly notable enough to have his own article here. Searching through the policy pages of Wikipedia, however, I was unable to discover any real consensus or settled policy on removing POV warnings and making articles more NPOV (did I miss something?). This article, in my opinion, clearly deserved a work-over; and it is my hope I did more to improve it than mar it.
